A Unique Experience

That all 800 pictures, with their extensive and completed captions were presented to me with tight but accurate locations within the text, remains for me a unique experience.

This became less of a surprise once I learnt that the author, Helen Mathers, and picture editor, Anthea Stephenson, supported by ten other academic colleagues, had employed iron discipline over two years preparing the material.

The relatively small format of the book, large number of pictures and high volume of text allowed little room for expansive design. But the restrained result was exactly how the client wished the finished work to appear.
